?Lexington County Sheriff?s Department deputies will attend two fund raisers that will be conducted on Saturday, February 16 in order to help offset medical expenses that have been incurred by the parents of Richard Culliver, a 7-year-old boy who is in the second grade at White Knoll Elementary School. Culliver, who aspired to eventually become a law enforcement officer, was diagnosed on October 4, 2012 with a type of brain cancer for which there is no cure.
During one of the fund raisers, Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts will present a plaque to Culliver and recognize Culliver as an honorary deputy with the Sheriff?s Department.
?Richard has told family members that he wanted to be a law enforcement officer when he grew up,? Metts said. ?We want Richard to be able to realize his dream of becoming a law enforcement officer by serving as an honorary deputy with our agency.?
Metts and deputies will attend a ?To the Moon and Back? fund raiser for Culliver that will be conducted between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Saturday, February 16 at the Country Club of Lexington, 1066 Barr Road, Lexington. The Reece Holbrook Win Anyway Foundation, which was founded to battle cancers that affect children, will sponsor the event.
During the fund raiser at the Country Club of Lexington, Metts will present the plaque to Culliver and recognize Culliver as an honorary deputy with the Sheriff?s Department.
Officers with the Sheriff?s Department and Lexington Police Department also will attend an ?Eating for Richard?s Journey? fund raiser for Culliver that will be conducted between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 16 at a Chick-fil-A restaurant, 5560 Sunset Boulevard, Lexington, Metts said.
The participation of the Sheriff?s Department in fund raisers for Culliver reflects the agency?s mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said. ???
